40th Birthday

This cake was for my aunt's 40th birthday. She was having a surpise party and they asked if I could do the cake for the party. This was my first time using fondant to cover the entire cake. This cake was also my first layered cake. The thing I loved most about this cake was the look of it, each time I looked at it I was amazed that I did it.The only thing that I would do differently is that I would make the fondant a little smoother, other than that I think that this cake was great.

Graduation Cake

This cake was my first cake.I made this cake for a graduation open house. If I was to do this cake again I would make the border better and I would do the "N" neater.Other than that I wouldn't change it a bit. I made the the border a little closer than I wanted it to be so I made the black dot border to even it out.

Baby Shower Cake

This cake was one of my personal favorites.I made this cake for one my grandma's friends at her work.I feel that I did a great job on this cake and the only thing that I would change is the fondant. The fondant was store bought and the taste was terrible even though it gave it good color.

80th Birthday Cake

This cake was for an 80th birthday party. It was a chocolate cake with green buttercream frosting.I loved doing this cake,it helped me experiment with new things like making and coloring fondant. When I tried coloring it red it made it very unstable.I tried to make a bow out of fondant.
This is the recipe I used:
1 bag (16oz) mini
marshmallows
1 two pound bag of powdered sugar
4-8 tablespoons water

M
elt marshmallows in the microwave for about 1 1/2 minutes.
Each 30 seconds you must check on the marshmallows and stir.
Add the melted marshmallows to the powdered sugar.
Mix by hand or mixer. Mix until batter looks crumbly. When this happens, add about 2 tablespoons of water at a time. When your batter looks like a paste you should knead it with Crisco coated hands. By now your batter should look smooth, and you should be able to use it .

When I added color it seemed to make the batter weak. So what I would do the next time I experimented with color- I would use more powdered sugar or just find a different fondant recipe that would interact better with colors.

I used the Cake Central website to get my inspiration on my bow.
